Grocery Girls Presents: Our First Annual Hometown Retreat – Right Here in Edmonton!

Registration begins Friday July 25th.

We’re beyond thrilled to finally share something that’s been in the works for a while now…

✨ Grocery Girls Hometown Retreat ✨

📍 Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

🏨 The Sandman Signature Hotel

📅 Thursday, October 30 – Sunday, November 2, 2025

That’s right—we’re bringing the magic home, and we want YOU to join us for a weekend of creativity, connection, and fibre-filled fun right here in our own backyard.

This first annual retreat will feature an incredible lineup of instructors, each bringing something unique and inspiring to the table:

🌈 Kim McBrien Evans
Designer, indie dyer, and fit revolutionary.

Kim is known for turning abstract ideas into color-rich handknit masterpieces—and for reshaping the way we think about sweater sizing and fit. She’s changing the industry with her inclusive measurement charts and passion for honoring every body.

Class: Make Yokes Fit YOU

Circular yoke sweaters are stunning—but they don’t always fit the way we want. In this class, Kim will teach you how to adjust yokes to suit your body using your measurements, shaping methods, and ease preferences. You’ll leave with a personalized “yoke map” and all the confidence to tackle your next sweater project.

🧶 Susan Chin
Brioche queen and knitting machine wizard.

Susan brings her deep understanding of brioche stitch (on both machines and needles!) to this beginner-friendly workshop that’s perfect for knitters ready to explore the bouncy, beautiful world of brioche.

Class: Introduction to Brioche

Learn the basics of 1x1 brioche in one and two colors. You’ll knit a sampler, explore needle size tips, and gain insight into the structure of this squishy stitch. Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to brush up your skills, you’ll walk away inspired—and just maybe, a little obsessed.

✨ Kim Heron
Textile artist and owner of Little Blue Fibre Studio in Edmonton.

With a background in fashion design and a deep love for fibre arts, Kim brings a playful and artistic touch to everything she does. Felting is her passion—and we know you’re going to love diving into this colorful world.

Deanne Underwood

A Canadian felt artist inspired by the beauty of Canadian mountains and prairies. Find her as Prairie Girl Felting.

Workshop: Magical Felting

All materials will be provided for this hands-on session where you’ll explore felting techniques and create your very own piece of fibre art. Be prepared to get creative!

Your retreat fee includes:

✔️ All classes (with supplies for felting)

✔️ All meals from Thursday evening through Sunday brunch

✔️ 3 nights of accommodations at the beautiful Sandman Signature Hotel
